In June of 2012, I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. The type of cancer I had was aggressive. I was fortunate to have an early diagnosis and successful treatment plan. The doctor’s told me if it had not been diagnosed early via my routine mammogram, I would have faced a much tougher battle. It was then I realized how important preventative care is to your health.
For the past 5 years I have participated in the Avon 39 Breast Cancer Walk. Every year, in 4 different cities, brought new memories and experiences. I have been blessed to walk the 39.3 miles side by side with my children and husband.
This year I have decided to challenge myself and walk 60 miles in 3 days! I have signed up for the Susan G. Komen – 3 Day Walk. Marion Strong will be a team of two; myself and my sister Geralyn. We will have supportive husbands heading up the “tailgate crew”. While this walk will be more difficult than past walks, I am confident with the continued support from family and friends that I can complete the 60 miles.
I am not the only one in my family that has been diagnosed with Breast Cancer. My amazing grandmother, Marion, lost her battle with breast cancer when she was only 57. She had 3 daughters who are breast cancer survivors. I am the first, and hopefully the last, of the third generation. Our team, Marion Strong, walks in my grandmother’s honor.
I have committed to raising $2,300.00 for the Susan G. Komen foundation but I hope to raise more!
Every 3 minutes someone in the world is diagnosed with breast cancer. This is something that needs to change. Your contribution will help support medical research, education and early detection programs, and clinical care and support services for men and women with breast cancer in communities across the country.
Thanks so much for helping to make this walk possible!
