This will be my 13th year walking in the 3 day and the 4th year since my breast cancer diagnosis. My motivation to walk 60 miles that first year was to show myself that I was physically strong enough after enduring surgery, 6 months of chemotherapy and 6 weeks of daily radiation treatments. I had no idea how much the walk would serve as a therapy session (albeit exhausting one)! Since that first walk, my motivation to keep walking has come from watching friends, as well as close family members, battle this disease. Walking seems like the very least I can do to both honor and show my support to eradicating breast cancer. While great strides have been made in the treatment and research of breast cancer, we still have so much more to do.
Please support me as I take on an incredible challenge to make an impact in the fight to end breast cancer. The Susan G. Komen 3-Day® isn’t just a 60-mile walk over the course of three days—it’s a journey to the end of breast cancer. The focus on finding better treatments and outcomes for those battling metastatic breast cancer is so critical right now. In 2016, Komen announced a Bold Goal—to reduce the current number of breast cancer deaths by 50% in the U.S. by 2026. That’s why I’m walking, and raising money—to make that goal a reality.
