Meet my mom, Mary Brandow.
In 2000, she was handed the devastating diagnosis of breast cancer. After enduring over a year of brutal chemoterapy and radiation treatments as well as a double mastectomy, the cancer thankfully went into remission. We hoped this was the end of a painful chapter in her and our family's lives. Tragically, in 2010, the cancer returned, this time metastasized in her bones and liver. At that time, my mom's doctors estimated she had less than a year to live. Amazingly, because of the care of many doctors using the latest treatments--many funded through donations to the Susan G. Komen Foundation--she continues to fight to this day. This June, my mom walked me down the aisle at my wedding in Mexico. Now I'm going to walk for her.
My sister Charlene and I will be participating in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day Walk in Seattle in September, walking 60 miles in three days. The money generated from the walk goes to research towards finding a cure for breast cancer, the same research that made it possible for my mom to be at my wedding, seven years after she was told she had only a year to live. Please consider joining with me and donating so that we can contribute in a meaningful, tangible way.
About the Susan G. Komen 3-Day
Please support me as I take on an incredible challenge. The Susan G. Komen 3-Day® isn’t just a 60-mile walk over the course of three days—it’s a journey to the end of breast cancer. Seventy-five percent of the net proceeds raised by the 3-Day® help support Komen’s Research and Training Grant Program and large public health outreach programs for women and men facing breast cancer. The remaining 25 percent helps fund local community and Affiliate support and outreach programs.
