Cliff’s Crew first put foot to pavement in 2002 under the guidance of Cliff Meyers. Cliff had lost a very dear friend, Betty Lou, on January 4th of that year and this was his way of honoring her memory.
Many of us have walked with Cliff over the years, united in the belief that we must help fund the research that is so desperately needed to eliminate breast cancer as one of the leading causes of death in women. We have all lost friends and family to breast cancer and now we are saying enough! We want to see to it that no other mother, father, sister, brother, wife, husband, daughter, or son succumbs to this monster. No folks, it’s not just a woman’s disease.
In November of this year Cliff’s Crew will again be in San Diego walking with many other women and men who believe that eveyone deserves a lifetime and a life without cancer. We will all raise as much money as we can to help fund that much needed research, and this year we will once again honor the memory of one of our own, Heather Sainsbury. Heather, rest now, we have it from here and we will carry your heart with us.
Every step we take is a beat of the heart of Cliff’s Crew. Every breath we breathe in is to feed the lungs of Cliff’s Crew. He has inspired all of us with his dedication to ending breast cancer. We walk as Cliff’s Crew because we are a team, we are Cliff’s team and we all know, that every moment it gets hard, we’ll hear Cliff’s buttery baritone voice saying, “ You can do it, just a little further”. Cliff’s Crew may have started out as a personal project for the man whose name we wear, but it’s now a family, an entity with a life of its own.
We will continue to walk as too many still suffer. Not only from the effects of chemo and radiation, but from the loss of a normal healthy life as we know it. We will walk to honor those survivors that have fought back and won and to always remember those that have been lost. Their battles were long and hard fought. We will walk until we don’t have to walk any longer. As Cliff has always said, “Our journey will end when a cure is found”.
Cliff’s Crew is an open team and we would love to have you come join us in this journey.
Families don’t always see eye to eye,
When trouble calls.
Or when we fall on hard times,
It is family that picks us up, and carries our load.
This odd group of one-time strangers,
Walking for themselves, together.
Year after year we train, laugh, and cry together.
We walk together in the footsteps of our fallen.
We’ll keep walking until a cure is found.
We are: CLIFF’S CREW. Please join us as we take on an incredible challenge. The Susan G. Komen 3-Day® isn’t just a 60-mile walk over the course of three days–it’s a journey to the end of breast cancer. We won't stop until breast cancer does.
