I walked in my first3-Day in 2002 and walked again in 2004. I saw all these teams of women and men with the same crazy pink hats and matching tee-shirts and thought to myself, “it would be fun to have a team”. I came up with the name “The Cup Crusaders”. Quite honestly I thought we might come up with another name once I had recruited a few teammates, but Cup Crusaders stuck!
I've walked 1,560 miles and helped raise OVER $1.2 MILLION toward a cure.
While myself and my teammates remain eternally grateful to our community for helping achieve such an amazing accomplishment, we realize that there is still much work to be done to fuel research to finding a cure. We ARE making progress. Survival rates are rising, new drugs and better treatments are available to those fighting the disease and Komen remains #2 only to the federal government in funding research.
I continue to walk in memory of my Aunt Carol (Cournoyer) Lambert and my cousin Tricia (Guthrie) Calato, both taken too soon from this earth, leaving behind amazing sons who have made their mark on this planet in a way both mothers would be quite proud. They SHOULD have been here for birthdays, graduations, weddings, sporting events, and quite frankly all those events that allow moms to beam with pride.
They SHOULD still be here. But they are not.
I made a promise to continue walking, which is what I will do. With your continued help and generosity, I will walk step by step, dollar by dollar, closer to a cure.
God Bless you and thank you for your generosity.
