The Top Crew Fundraiser in each city gets a cape! Who knew? Thank you for helping me achieve “superhero status” in San Diego in 2016.
But in 2017…. Big things are happening!
This year, Team Girlapalooza turns 10 years old. We have a year of celebrations planned for our team and supporters. I’ll be walking again – in my home state! I decided to take on the Dallas/Ft. Worth walk for a number of reasons. The most important reason is because I’ll be walking it again in 2018. Sound odd?
When I first got involved in these walks 13 years ago, it was to honor Mary’s victory over breast cancer. Mary and her family have been my mom’s neighbors for four decades. She was my confirmation sponsor, and her commitment to her faith and to stewardship for others inspires me every day. Her girls want to do something big to celebrate their mom’s 20th anniversary of being cancer-free, so of course, I suggested I had just the thing….. But they pointed out to me that 2017 is their mom’s 20-year anniversary of being diagnosed and they don’t want to celebrate that. I get that. So I told them I would walk DFW in 2017 and scope it out in preparation for a Texas-size, family-wide, 3-Day neighborhood celebration in 2018.
Big D-little a-double l-a-s, here come the Paloozas! Will you support me once again this year, if not for Mary, for the ones you love and for all those women who will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year? It is estimated that there will be 246,600 new incidences of breast cancer in women this year. Another 2600 men will be diagnosed.
And for many of us, those aren’t just numbers. Those are faces of people we love. Faces of moms and sisters and friends and coworkers. Faces of neighbors and confirmation sponsors.
Thank you for your support.
UPDATE! I actually lowered my goal (a first!) to $5383 today because I just did some number-crunching and when I hit that mark, I will hit $75,000 in lifetime fundraising thanks to you!
