Thank you again for your continued support. I have again taken on the incredible challenge so that we can find a cure for breast cancer. On October 7-9, I'll be walking 60 miles over the course of three days, camping out at night with thousands of other women and men taking this journey with me. Net proceeds raised by past donors of the Komen 3-Day support ground breaking research and scientific programs as well as grants for education, screening and treatment programs at both the national and local level.
No breast cancer organization provides more support and care than Susan G. Komen for the Cure(r). Virtually every major advance in the fight against breast cancer in the last 30 years has been impacted by a Susan G. Komen grant, and millions of women rely on Komen every day. These women need our help more than ever to safeguard Komen's great work in our local communities for another 30 years.
This is my fourth time doing the walk. The past three years were amazing experiences. I walked amongst a crowd of thousands who were all there in support of friends and family who were currently suffering, were survivors or whom they lost to breast cancer. It was an extrememly emotional few days. Survivors told their stories of how they disciovered the diisease and what they went through to get their lives back. They spoke of the research, medical help and support that Susan G Komen gave them. I cried, I laughed and I left the weekend ready and eager to do the walk again this year. I truly felt the impact my 60 miles made on others lives.
This cause is very important to me. I never met my grandmother because she died at 44 years of age from this horrible disease. Since her time, much scientific advancement has been made, but we are not there yet. Many other influential women in my life have passed from cancer and thankfully others are survivors. In memory of my grandmother Joan Leebow and my other friends who have passed as well as in honor of those I know who have fought the battle and survived, I am determined to walk 60 miles in 3 days and raise at least $5000. I want to support those who are suffering by providing healthcare and helping raise funds to research to find a cure. Every 19 seconds, somewhere in the world, someone is diagnosed with breast cancer and every 74 seconds, somewhere in the world, someone dies from breast cancer. That's why I'm walking in the 3-Day.
I walk so that others can LIVE!
