Please support me as I take on an incredible challenge to make an impact in the fight to end breast cancer.
On July 20th of this year I will be leaving my home in Beaverton Oregon for the bicycle ride of my life. It will be my own incredible journey riding 1,825 miles ending up in St Paul Minnesota to participate in the Susan G Komen 3-day, that begins August 16th, to help find a cure to breast cancer. Just a short month after participating in Twin Cities I will also be participating in the Seattle 3-day in September.
“I ride because the day a family member receives a cancer diagnosis, your whole world changes. You immediately think of the years you may lose with them and of the heavy burdens they now must bear. I dream of a future in which no mother, father, sister, brother, or other loved one has to battle cancer. We’re all here today, united in the fight against cancer. We support the fighters, admire the survivors, honor the angels, and never EVER give up hope.”
I know that rain or shine hills or flats I am going to take on this journey. Because cancer doesn't stop for the weather or terrain.
I will take on the early mornings and late nights. Because cancer doesn't rest.
I ride in memory of my my father in law Ken, grandmother Grace, my Aunt Francis, and others that have lost their lives to cancer. Because I don't want their loss to be for nothing.
I ride for my friends, family, and others that have kicked cancers butt. Because cancer can't keep us down. The only thing we can do is fight it.
I ride for those that are fighting for their life. Especially my beautiful, strong, determined granddaughter Brittany that was diagnosed with leukemia on August 9th of 2017. Because we can't take their place or make it just go away.
I ride for my sister in law Leslie that was recently diagnosed and is just starting her breast cancer battle. I know you are a warrior and are going to come out on the other side victorious.
I ride to bring awareness and funding to finding a cure for breast cancer. Because I don't want my kids or yours to have to worry about losing someone that they love to Cancer.
My prayer is that we find a cure before more than 20,000 women and men die next year from this horrible disease if we stand idlely by.
Most of all, I ride as a cancer survivor. Because I know the pain and suffering that cancer brings to the families of those that are diagnosed with cancer. And I cannot imagine not doing everything humanly possible to find a cure.
The Susan G. Komen 3-Day® isn’t just a 60-mile walk over the course of three days—it’s a journey to the end of breast cancer. Komen has a Bold Goal—to reduce the current number of breast cancer deaths by 50% in the U.S. by 2026. That’s why I’m participating as part of the Route Safety crew and raising money—to make that goal a reality.
