2019 ~ Year 22 Raising Funds!!!!! Year 5 ~ 3-Day San Diego! Walking 20 Miles a Day ~ 60 Miles Total Dear Family, Friends and Clients, April 2019 MY INSPIRATION ~ I am happy to report that my best friend, Linda Murphy, continues full speed ahead as a 22 year survivor. She has endured numerous treatments and surgeries. She spends part of her time watching the youngest of her eight grandchildren, and the rest of the time attending every baseball and soccer game along with school events and college visits. Whew! One Super Grandma! She is truly my inspiration for raising funds!
AN EXAMPLE OF HOW KOMEN CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE ~ In January, at our 2018 wrapup party for Hands up for Hooters, I heard some astounding news! One of our members said her husband had recently been diagnosed with a very aggressive form of neck cancer AND the treatment he received that cured his cancer was in part the result of a discovery made with Komen research funds! We never know the distance this research can reach. WHY KOMEN? Susan G. Komen continues to be the biggest private contributor to breast cancer research IN THE WORLD. Since 1982, they have funded over $988M in research, and more than $2.2 Billion in screening, education, treatment, and psychosocial support in 30 countries worldwide. The Komen goal is to: REDUCE DEATHS FROM BREAST CANCER BY 50% BY 2026! I want to see this happen. You will find more information outlining treatment progress each decade and additional detailed information at komen.org.
OUR 5TH YEAR PARTICIPITAING IN THE 3-DAY SAN DIEGO WALK ~ We each have to raise $2300 ($4600 total) in order to walk in this amazing fund-raising event. Each of you have been there for us year after year! Once we raise our funds, we can concentrate on our training.
AN IMPORTANT REMINDER ~ I carry a list of names with me on every walk. It is pinned to my back. I walk in celebration of survivors AND in memory of those who are no longer here. If your donation is in honor of a special someone, please send me their name, and I will add them to my list. After so many years, my list has grown! Thankfully the “Celebration” list continues to grow more quickly as a result of early diagnosis and more effective treatments.
My (our) heartfelt thanks to YOU for your continued support!! Kathy Chigbrow (and Francis “Chig” too)
