Susan G. Komen 3-Day
The other day I was asked why I decided to walk. The answers are simple:
1) I want to help find a cure for breast cancer. I want to live in a world where moms, daughters, grandmas, aunts, cousins, sister and friends don't have worry about breast cancer. I want to help one more women to get the treatment she needs. Help one more women with a mammogram, early detection and knowldge. I want to help empower those who are currently fighting, will fight and have kicked cancers butt! These Warriors have given me a CAUSE and REASON.
2) I am walking for my aunts. Three of my aunts (all sisters) have had to stare breast cancers ugly face in the eyes and fight. The first to be diagnosed was my aunt Kristi. She is currently fighting her second round with this terrible cancer. The next was my aunt Cheryl. Cheryl under went treatment and a full mastectomy and is living life to it's fullest cancer free! The last of my aunts to be diagnosed was my aunt Marva. She under went treatment and a partial mastectomy and is also living life to the fullest and cancer free. These three amazing Warriors have given me the STRENGTH to do the walk.
3) I have another Aunt who has participated in the Susan G. Komen 3-day for 8 years and is going to be walking in her 9th walk this year along side me, her daughter, and her niece. She has been an inseration to me and has being a living example of commitment. Every year she trains and fundraises and walk to help find a cure. This incredible warrior has taught me DEDICATION.
4) This reason is for myself. I want a future for myself with out breast cancer. Last year I was able to go to the closing ceramonies and was so touch and moved by the group of Warriors. So moved that I decided I wanted to be a part of it. So the thought sat in the back of my mind as I went on with school, work and my life. Then an oppertunity to do the 3-day walk arose and I took the bull by the horns and have started running, or rather walking, with it. I also look at this as the begining of getting myself in shape and out exercisng. At the start of this journey I was about 300 lbs and not feel very happy with myself at 27 years of age. I knew I needed to do something and this has become that something. I have started racking up my training miles and have worked 4 walks a week into my busy schedule and schooling. This has been a little dificult and will continue to be so as the training walks get longer. I am teaching myself that I CAN.
Please support me as I take an amazing journey in the fight to end breast cancer! The Susan G. Komen 3-Day? is a 60-mile walk over the course of three days. Seventy-five percent of the net proceeds raised by the Komen 3-Day help fund national research and large public health outreach programs. The remaining 25 percent helps fund local community and Affiliate support and outreach programs.
Remember no donation amount is too small and no donation amount is too big!
P.S. If someone you know is a Fighter, Survivor, or has lost their battle please send me their name so I can add them to my shirt that I will wear while walking. Lets help honor these People!
