THAT PHONE CALL ...

It's totally amazes me how one day, one phone call, one "word" can change the dynamic of your total being. That's exactly what happened to me.  It was a Monday, it was December 6th, 2010 and it was a phone call.  I was at my daughter's home when that call came ... Why? The doctor proceeded to tell me that he had just gotten results from my daughter's breast tissue biopsy, I still don't know, but what I do know, is that I couldn't process the information.  Air went from my lungs, my head felt dizzy, I couldn't think for a moment or two.  His words: "It's cancer" ... stung like nothing else before, a mother's worst nightmare for her child.

Because of the circumstances surrounding Brandi's early diagnosis, her surgeon told us that IF she had gone untreated, that in only two ( 2 ) short years the results would have been so very different.

For the past two years I've watched my daughter endure several surgeries, every emotion possible and watched her determination to do whatever it takes, to get herself healthy and back to a normal life with her family.  She has a devoted husband ( which I equate with a Saint :o) and two unbelievable children that gave her the strength, support and love she needed to win the fight against breast cancer. As of yesterday, February 4th, 2012 she is cancer free and will be walking her second 3-Day this summer.  

I couldn't be more proud of Brandi, than I already am.  I couldn't be happier to see her blossom from this experience.  She kept her "eye on the prize" and worked hard to overcome the obstacles and fears that millions of women and men face on a daily basis. 

I am walking 60 miles in 3 days on August 17th, 18th & 19th 2012 with my daughters, in Detroit, to help in awareness, research, education, screening and treatment of breast cancer ... but most of all for early detection.
