Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure

Hello to all of you!

I am so very blessed to have amazing friends who are committed to helping me and my family end Breast Cancer! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to read this e-mail and for considering helping out.

Let me do a little introduction/history of why this event is so important to me. I walked my first 3Day in 2007 and I did so in honor of my Mother-in-law who passed after an 11year battle with this disease. My husband Dave was a Junior in High School when he lost his mom...think about that for a second.. from the age of 5 Dave saw his Mom go through so much. At the walk I spent time in the Survivor Tent talking to her. I felt so connected to her for the first time in my 20year marriage on the tent I wrote "so sorry you were never able to meet your amazing granddaughters. They are beautiful and your spirit lives in them". I left with tears in my eyes and headed back to camp and thought how sad that my Sister-in-Law Janet was now fighting this disease and with a teen age boy of her own I was struck by the thought of Richard also loosing his mom to soon.

Fast forward to the 3Day 2011. This time in the Survivor Tent are my two daughters Anne and Michaela and as they reflect on the impact of this disease not only on their father, they reflect as children/daughters of a Breast Cancer Survivor! Hard to believe it but just 10 months after I walked for the first time I myself was diagnosed with cancer. I went through chemo, double mastectomy, radiation and surgery to remove my ovaries and just when I thought I was "clear" the cancer returned. I am a metastatic breast cancer patient and I am living an amazing life thanks to all of you. I truly believe the advances in treatment have enabled me to continue to live. I truly believe that Koman has helped change this disease and I believe they will continue to do so for the next generation.

My dream is to meet my grandchildren and not have my daughters write on that beautiful white tent..."Mom so sorry you were never able to meet your amazing grandchildren. And that they will not have to ever be survivors because it will not exist!

With 3 of us walking the funding is quite a battle, but we can do it together!

Feel free to forward this to any of your friends whom you feel understand the importance of this event and would like to help us out.
