I know you will always be with me.
Jean Vuichard 1-11-1965 to 10-14-2011.
Dear Supports,
I miss my mom! Every day I wake up with a void in my life and think about life without cancer. Supporting the mission of Susan G. Komen has become my passion. I need to help find the cure for breast cancer and I need your help in doing so!
Breast cancer took my mother from us, but before it could take her life it took everything else. Let me tell you a little about her story. My mom was 44 when she was diagnosed with cancer, but for weeks the doctors could not find where the cancer started. The only reason they knew she had cancer was due to the fact she had pain under her arm and from that pain they found the cancer in her lymph nodes. Finally, they discovered that it was triple negative breast cancer, but the cancer was located so far back in the breast wall it was undetectable on a mammogram. Once the doctors were able to locate the primary location of the cancer a plan of attack was formed. My mom then had the lymph nodes removed, started chemotherapy and radiation. I still to this day admire how brave she was during this time in her battle.
There came a point where we thought we won, the cancer in the breast was somewhat managed, but that feeling was short lived. My family and I started to notice that mom was a little off, speech a little slurred and her balance unsteady. We knew something was really wrong and sure enough the cancer had spread to the brain and she had hydrocephalus (water on the brain). This is when the cancer really took over my poor 45 year old mother's body. The cancer in the brain was located on the brainstem which is an area the doctors are not able to operate on, so mom started more chemotherapy, trial dugs and radiation. During this time, her life became more complicated. Her eyes closed, vision was off, her balance was unsteady which lead to becoming wheelchair bound and her voice was mumbled then eventually went away. She also lost her fine motor skills and ability to take care of herself. Two and a half years into her battle, breast cancer won and on 10/14/11, at 46 my mother was taken from us. I am telling our story because breast cancer started her battle and I plan to finish it. Breast cancer is more than people think, it truly can take everything away and take it away fast! We need to raise money and spread awareness. Please help in any way you can, please!
Together we can find the cure,
Mike Hull

Dear Local Business and Friends,
I am writing you today with the hope that you will join me in taking a bold stance against breast cancer this October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
My name is Mike Hull and my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer over two years ago. Since the moment we received her diagnosis, my life and goals have changed, and I have a new determination to find the cure for breast cancer. Over the last twelve months my mother's breast cancer metastasized to the brain and started to take her life away from her. She started to lose everything starting with her balance, eye sight, coordination, voice, and ability to take care of herself. Not a day goes by that I don't worry it may be our last together, or fear what effects the cancer might bring that day.
As you know, I am writing today with the hope you can join me in our fight against breast cancer. My goal is to raise money for the Susan G. Komen (SGK) organization. Net proceeds from SGK funds innovative global breast cancer research and local community programs supporting education, screening and treatment. Virtually every major advance in the fight against breast cancer in the last 28 years has been impacted by a Komen for the Cure grant.
Can you help promote breast cancer awareness and raise money for SGK for the cure? It is simple, all you have to do is commit at least one day in October and call it "Casual For The Cure Day." You simply set a donation amount and every employee who donates that amount will be able to dress casual for that specific day (or days). If your company already dresses casually, maybe you can do a dress pink day?
I will provide you with a kit on how to run this program and buttons for employees who want to participate. This will also allow visitors to your place of business know what you are doing and why you are doing it. The buttons have the pink breast cancer ribbon on them and the tag line "Casual For The Cure". This is a simple way to raise money, support the cause, and raise awareness. All funds from this program go to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
Some business may want to make October a month full of events to raise money. Please see the attached flyer for more ideas. I have a lot of breast cancers items and supplies that were purchased to help raise money and awareness. Please let me know what you plan to do and I can get you extra supplies.
Somewhere in the world a woman dies from breast cancer every 69 seconds. Remember every dollar will lead us one step close to the cure for breast cancer.
To sign up please let me know how many buttons you need and I will get your "Casual For The Cure" kit to you ASAP. The kit and buttons are free of charge. No out of pocket cost.
Together we can find the cure,
Mike Hull
