Ellyn & Karyn August 2011
|
I cannot believe that I am actually taking on the 60 mile walk for a 5th year in a row. Each year I wonder if enough is enough, but I simply just do not want to stop fighting.
I initially began walking five years ago with my close friend, Ellyn, who is not only a breast cancer survivor, but one of the bravest and most generous women that I know. She battled her cancer with strength and positivity and has never looked back. She manages a busy career, raises a family of 3 and still manages to devote countless hours helping others. She amazes me every day.
Since my involvement with the 3 Day, I have been really touched by so many women and men with breast cancer and some who have survived and unfortunately, others who have not. In January 2011, we lost Suzanne Bartholomew who I was honored to have known since college and walked with for a few years. She was so young and had been through so much, so I proudly walk in her memory.
I was also honored to meet my team member Mike Hull last year who was walking for his mother who was fighting breast cancer at the young age of 46. I was fortunate to have met her at the walk last year, but saddened to find out that she had passed away just a few months later. I walk in her memory.
I feel like breast cancer is all around us and we all know someone who has battled with it. I like to focus on the fact that anyone fighting is not alone. I walk for my friend and co-worker Laura who is battling against breast cancer, as well as my friend and neighbor Sharon, who was also diagnosed this year. I walk for Sheryll who is a survivor and is truly amazing.
Please support me as I take an amazing journey in the fight to end breast cancer! The Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure® is a 60-mile walk over the course of three days. Net proceeds from the 3-Day for the Cure are invested in breast cancer research and community programs.
