To fight by definition is to gain power over an adversary by blows or with weapons. The greatest fight I have ever encountered started about 8 years ago with a 30 yr woman named Paula Jean Verna. She may have not fought with weapons but she overcame this horrible Thing with LOVE. That was her weapon, That was all she needed. At 30 she was diganosed with stage 4 breast cancer. I have never sen someone so selfless, so loyal, so giving fight so hard but not for her, for everyone else around her.
I met Paula just a year into her fight, all I needed was a roommate. She became my Sister by choice. To watch this rollercoaster of a life was the best thing I could have never asked for. It never mattered how sick Chemo made her that day or even that week, all she cared about was how everyone else was doing, how I was going to eat that day. It could have been 3am after being sick all day, If need an ear to listen, that was her. If I was sick, she was there giving me hot tea and lecturing me on not to drink sode... There was absolutely nothing Paula would do for me or anyone else touched, even for a brief minute in the starbucks she worked at. She made the world a better place. She was my angel on earth..
After 8 long years of fighting,on Sept 14th 2011, she recieved her gold linning wings that have a wing span as far as the eye can see. Cancer did not win nor will it ever, Paula WON and every warrior fighting or who has fought WINS. Paula showed me the real definition of fighting,to NEVER GIVE UP, thats it! True STRENGTH is never giving up, no matter what...
To Lisa Marie,
I walk beside you to show that you dont always need to be that rock
I walk beside you so know that someone else can show you the light when you feel it getting dark
I walk beside you so when your knees feel weak, You can use mine to finish
I walk beside you to show you just how much your life means to me
I walk beside you so you never feel that you have to do this alone
I walk beside you, so just as you... I will NEVER GIVE UP
I walk beside you to show how hard I will fight
We walk together because a minute can mean a lifetime.
We walk together as we know times maybe hard, we were built tough.
This is far from over.. Watch us keep getting back, back on our feet...
This why we fight... This is why WE walk...
This year I start fighting by walking...
Please support me as I take an amazing journey in the fight to end breast cancer! The Susan G. Komen 3-Day TM is a 60-mile walk over the course of three days. Net proceeds from the 3-Day are invested in breast cancer research and community programs.
