Susan G. Komen 3-Day
|
Hi Everyone,
My name is Tasha Abeyta and this is my first Susan G. Komen 60-mile walk. I would like to thank my godmother for inspiring me walk with her because she walked last year for the first time and I was so proud of her for taking a stand against breast cancer. I also would like to thank my mom who is very supportive and willing to help me train for a walk that will change my life for the better.
Although, we do not have a cure for this disease that affects so many people every year, I hope that our continued efforts will eventually find a cure that takes the lives of so many women and some men. The National Cancer Institute predicts that in 2012 there will be an estimated 226,870 new cases for women and an estimated 2,190 cases for me. They also predict breast cancer will take the lives of 39,510 women and approximately 410 men. These people who will be affected by this disease are not only those who are diagnosed, all of these people will have family. These men and women are mothers/fathers, brothers/sisters, son/daughters, aunts/uncles. It is my hope that my efforts this year and in the years to come will be the reason that maybe my daughter, granddaughter or great-granddaughter will be cured of breast cancer. In order to make this dream of mine possible, I need all of your help and support.
Please support me as I take an amazing journey in the fight to end breast cancer! The Susan G. Komen 3-Day is a 60-mile walk over the course of three days. Net proceeds from the 3-Day are invested in breast cancer research and community programs.
