Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure
|
Well, it's that time of year again! It is hard to believe that we members of Team W.I.S.H. (Walking In Spirit and Hope) Arizona are already gearing up for another exciting year of fundraising, training, and walking for the 2012 Arizona 3-Day Breast Cancer Walk to be held November 9-11 in the Greater Phoenix area. However, as exciting as our preparation may be, this year is especially meaningful for me, because when I join thousands of women and men for three days to walk 60 miles to raise funds for Susan G. Komen 3-Day For The Cure, I will be walking in honor of my husband, John, who is battling liver cancer--a vivid example of how this insidious disease cancer can strike close to home at any time. No one is exempt.
Team W.I.S.H. Arizona consistently enjoys high rankings among the top fundraising teams in the Arizona 3-Day Walk. Since our Team's inception in 2004, we have raised over ONE MILLION DOLLARS. I invite you to join with us to continue the fight against breast cancer.
As a member of Team W.I.S.H., I am walking because I cannot walk away from the hope that together we will find a cure! I am walking for my husband to honor him and all those who are fighting the good fight. I am walking for those individuals who, despite enduring the agony of breast cancer, demonstrate an awesome spirit and faith in the belief that one day we will end breast cancer forever. That's why I'm walking so far--to do something bold about cancer. I hope that you will share this incredible adventure with me by supporting my fundraising efforts.
So, yes, this is a plea for your emotional and financial support. And yes, these are difficult economic times. However, the consequence of cancer continues despite a slowing economy. A dollar for every mile that I'll be walking would be wonderful. I thank you in advance for whatever you can give. Net proceeds from the 3-Day for the Cure are invested in breast cancer research and community programs.
