Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure
|
Dear Family and Friends,
Yes, I'm doing it again - I signed up for the 2011 Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure®! I had such an incredible experience doing the 3-Day for the Cure in 2009 that I'm going back for more.
I'm so excited about this event, even though this year I really know what I've gotten myself into (and I am two years older, just turned 60 so I figured why not walk 60 miles.!)
This event isn't easy. In 2009, we had record breaking heat in Florida for the walk, but I promise you, I wouldn't be doing it if I didn't believe 100% that it was worth every muscle ache, blister, weary night and training walk (leaving home at 5:00 a.m. on the weekends to train)!
I will do the work, the 580 miles of training followed by the 3-day 60 mile walk, but of greater importance is the financial help I hope you will provide. I am planning on raising a minimum of $2300.00 that so many of you - my friends and family - so generously helped me with last time around. The money raised goes to breast cancer research as well as to support cancer related community programs.
I am walking to honor my mother, a breast cancer survivor, and to honor and remember countless other friends and family who have fought this disease, not all of them with a positive outcome. I am walking to raise funds and awareness so that one day a cure will be found and my own daughters will never have to know what it is like to face this dreadful disease.
And so, I am asking you to support me on this journey by making a donation. To make a donation, go to http://The3Day.org, click on Donate to a Participant. Enter my name and follow the instructions. If you don’t want to donate online, feel free to send a check to me, made out to the 3-Day Walk, at 3728 Surrey Lane, Sarasota, FL 34235 and I will process it for you.
By working together I truly believe that we can make an impact on those affected by cancer.
Thanking you all for your support, kindness and more importantly, your friendship. Fern
P.S. Even though the actual walk is not until October, I am raising the money now so that I can fully concentrate on training.
