Well I survived my 60 mile journey this past weekend. And boy was it a scorcher!! We braved temperatures over 100 degrees as well as thunderstorms, but we prevailed!!
The Boston 3-day walk raised $4.8 Million and that was just as of this past weekend. With 4 more weeks for participants to raise money and hopefully meet their minimum requirements, we should see that total increase. Although the amount of money raised is awesome, there is still work to be done.
Tune in next year, or maybe even the year after to help me continue the fight against breast cancer - we will continue to walk until there is a cure!! Thank you everyone for your support - both monetary and emotional. You have no idea how rewarding this experience was for me and the support of friends and family has only made it so much better!! Keep Fighting - Michele

The countdown...only one month left to train and to raise as much money as I can for this great cause.
As the training continues, the walks are getting longer. But 10 miles is now a piece of cake!!
The fundraising has been amazing. I never thought in my wildest dreams that I would have been able to raise as money as I have and realize how many terrific and generous people there are in my "little" circle of friends and family. It is so exciting to see the total amount climbing and almost addicting as I have been able to continue raising my goal.
This weekend, I will be at Stop & Shop in RH selling some pink rubber duckies and awareness bracelets to keep those funds coming in. And the fundraising will be sandwiched in between an 18 mile training walk that I'm determined to complete on Saturday. Wish me luck and if you see me walking on the streets of RH or Wethersfield, give a honk!!

My family and I went camping this weekend at Jellystone Park in Sturbridge, MA and yes we got to hang out with Yogi Bear!! I was able to do some walking around the campgrounds - many loops throughout the grounds and what great terrain to train on!! We returned home for Memorial Day and the boys had a Daddy day so I could do some un-interrupted walking. This would be the first big walk I've done in a couple of weeks since battling shin splints.
I ventured out in the heat that seem to come out of no where this past weekend. It was a hot walk, but I figured it will definitely prepare me for July in Boston. Many bottles of water and a huge Powerade later, I'm happy to say I was able to complete the 11 miles in just over 3 hours. Shin splints seems to have healed nicely and knock on wood, no blisters or sun burn this time!

So I took advantage of the beautiful weather last Friday and took the day off from work. My goal was to get a nice long training walk in before the busy weekend hit. After lathering up in sunscreen, I set out for a 13 mile walk. The weather was perfect - sunny, but not too hot with a little breeze here and there. I finished it up in 4 1/2 hours with 3 stops along the way for pit and hydration stops - 3 hours 55 minutes of walking.
The next morning though, I learned my lesson. Even when you think you have slathered the sunscreen, do it again and hit every open exposed ounce of skin. I missed a spot on one shoulder and forgot about putting sunscreen on the back of my legs - my calves from the back of my knees to my ankles were a shade of pink that does not belong on a body.
With the walk being in July, I will make sure that the sunscreen is the first thing packed in my bag! Lesson Learned!!

Some of the team members met up at the CT Legislative Offices in Hartford today where we were presented a CT state flag from State Representative Christie Carpino. The flag will be brought to Boston and will be displayed in our tent compound so everyone can see our CT pride and just as important so we can find our tents among the hundreds at base camp.
We are down to only 11 weeks of training left before the walk and the weeks seem to be going by quicker and quicker. Until next time, keep on walking...

I logged in 17 miles this weekend. It was a perfect weekend for walking outside - the weather was georgeous yesterday and it actually energized me. and also reminded me that I need sunscreen...oopps!
When I told my youngest man, Nick that I was going out for a walk, he didn't seem to think that 11 miles was enough yesterday and wanted me to do 60 million miles. I guess I'll be busy.

I'm down to only 14 weeks left for training - just over 3 months. This weekend I walked 21 miles from Friday to Sunday. I'm finding that the most challenging part of the training for me has been the time management. Saturday's 10 miles took me about 6 hours to complete - only 3 of those hours was actually walking. The rest of the time was doing laundry, back and forth to karate, packing kid and husband for overnight trip with Cub Scouts, lunch for the kids...the list goes on. My husband has been great and is very supportive, but there is never enough hours in the day.
Sunday's walk was outside and it was a beautiful day to walk and leave my household duties behind for a few hours. Thanks to Eric for taking the kids to the movies so I didn't have to worry about feeling like I was skipping out on the family.
As the weeks get closer and the training walks longer, I will just keep my end goal in mind - this is all for a wonderful cause and I just hope that all my work WILL make a difference in the lifes of many women and their families who are coping with the challenges of a breast cancer diagnosis. That makes it all worth it!!

I'm down to 17 more weeks. Last weekend was a big one for walking - a total of 21 miles. 13 of those miles walked over the weekend (and boy was it windy out!). I have to admit I'm looking forward to the last low mileage weekend for a while - this week is only 15 miles - only 7 of those miles will be done on Saturday and Sunday. And with the impending snow coming on Friday, that is good news for me!!

I met up with some other girls who will be doing the 3-day walk either in Boston with me or in other cities across the U.S. We did our first outdoor walk and it felt good to be outside. We walked for 2 hours and I'm happy to say I felt good after our walk. Tomorrow I hit the treadmill!!

I am back on track in training for my journey after a short set back with walking pneumonia. This weekend I'm set to do 10 miles of walking. I can't wait for warmer weather so I can move my walks from the basement treadmill to my neighborhood.
