Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure
|
Bigger, Bolder, Stronger in 2011
Thank you for supporting me again as I take an amazing journey in the fight to end breast cancer! The Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure? is a 60-mile walk over the course of three days. Net proceeds from the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure? are invested in breast cancer research and community programs.
"When you know better, you do better" I can't wait to see what we can achieve together as I take on the this challenge a second time!
My 2010 Experience
Last year I accepted the challenge of training, fundraising, and then walking 60 miles to help the fight against breast cancer. What I did not fully understand was the life changing experience I was about to experience.
I signed up on the anniversary of my Mother in Laws first birthday wihout her. She was a beautiful, courageous survivor. Without walkers before me, I would not have had the opportunity to meet her, to know her, to invite her to my wedding or the birth of my two boys. She embraced family and lived every moment with beauty and grace. We miss her dearly.
Her strength powered me to train when I thought I did not have the time or energy. Most important, her strength carried me the last 20 miles or so in 2010 when my left knee decided it was more of a 40 mile knee than a 60 mile knee. Her memory, along with dozens of other breast cancer victims I carried on my journey propelled me to take every step of the 60 miles! The Seattle 2010 3-Day was my opportunity to pay back the commitment of previous walkers.
As I contemplated a second 3-Day journey my first thought was, "How could I take on such a massive committment again?" This thought was immediately followed by, "How could I not?" I had pondered this thought for months, when a friend from teaching bravely faced a double masectomy. I always say, "God whispers before he yells at me," I don't need to be yelled at. I got it!
So, on Day 1 of 2011 I again accept the challenge of training, fundraising, and walking 60 miles. This time I fully understand what I am signing up for, and I can't wait to see how my life will change again! Seattle 2011 3-Day is officially my "Pay it forward year".
Interested in Walking???
Want to walk but scared to take the leap?
Boy do I understand!
I am so grateful for my friend and neighbor who held my hand and helped me leap at this amazing opportunity in 2010. As a previous walker, she understood my concerns, but knew what a life-changing experience I was about to have. We walked, laughed, cried, hugged and slept in a tent together. We bandaged blisters and beg borrowed and traded for random bandages together. I am honored to walk with her again in 2011, and would love to return the favor for another new walker.
Let's chat if you think you might be interested!
