Thank you for volunteering to become a part of the Susan G. Komen 3-Day™ support team. We’ve compiled some information to get you started on the right foot. If your question is not answered below, please call 800-996-3DAY or email crew@the3day.org.
What to Expect
After you have registered for a particular volunteer opportunity, you will receive a reminder email one week before the event or meeting begins. This message will contain detailed information about the event location, parking, what to bring, etc.
Fundraising
While the Komen 3-Day does many things - inspires participants, raises awareness in local communities, celebrates survivors, and provides a challenge - the thing we are most focused on is raising money to bring an end to breast cancer. As a volunteer, you are not required to fundraise. Your gift to the cause is your service to the walkers and crew members. If you would like to fundraise, please encourage your donors to make a general donation to the 3-Day®.
Volunteer Captains
We need eight volunteers to lead their teams on the final day of the 3-Day in the Participant Finish Area and Closing Ceremony site. Captains should have strong communication and leadership skills as they are the point person between staff, the volunteer coach, and volunteers throughout the ceremony. Captains assist staff in managing all aspects of their assigned area and their volunteer team. They ensure their volunteer team is informed, supported, productive, and taken care of. Closing Ceremony Opportunities
Volunteer opportunities on the final day of the event include: The Shop3Day.com® General Store, Volunteer Check-in, Concierge Team, Pit Stop Support, Victory T-shirt Distribution, Traffic Control & Shuttle, Hydration Station and Gear Retrieval. Please note that volunteers will not be able to see the Closing Ceremony as they will be busy helping the walkers in the Participant Finish Area and then breaking down and cleaning up the Participant Finish Area as the walkers proceed into the Closing Ceremony.
Spread the Word
We welcome all groups of volunteers for our Participant Finish Area, Closing Ceremony and in camp. Please contact a Crew & Volunteer Coordinator if you would like to gather a group of friends, family or co-workers to volunteer with you.
