Help Us Help You - A Fundraising Survey
If you have not yet started fundraising or have hit a plateau with your fundraising, we want to help. Would you like an in-person brainstorming session with fellow participants? Maybe a conference call led by a Breast Cancer 3-Day coach and supported by our most successful fundraisers? Please take a few minutes to provide some feedback on how we can best support you as you fundraise for the Breast Cancer 3-Day. Follow this link to take our brief survey:

Please log in and refresh this page to access the survey link.

We know you can achieve and even exceed your fundraising goal this year and we want to support you in your journey. Make 2009 the year that you go the greatest distance you can go to help end breast cancer.

Get Your Fundraising Out of First Gear
So, you've sent out your fundraising emails and letters - now what? There is more that you can do to help push your fundraising out of the initial stages and closer to your goals.

  • Plan a fundraising event. This can be as simple as a gathering of friends at your house, or as elaborate as a benefit concert or auction of donated items.
  • Check out the fundraising ideas library to see what unique ideas have worked for other participants.
  • Think about what skills or talents you could put to use. Can you make baked goods or crafts to sell? Are you an outgoing person who could set up a table outside a grocery store to ask for donations? Do you work in an office where you could organize a fundraising lunch or put up a poster of your fundraising progress?
  • Call the Breast Cancer 3-Day coaches! At 800.996.3DAY you'll find friendly, helpful coaches who can help you come up with ideas or provide the inspiration or motivation you need to step your fundraising up to the next level. Many coaches have walked in a previous Breast Cancer 3-Day and are happy to share their personal experiences of what worked for them and provide real-world examples as they help you craft a custom fundraising plan that will work for you. You can do it - we believe in you!

Tips from the Inside
Each month, we feature an inside tip from a member of our coaching staff who you may recognize when you call our toll-free number or send us an email. Here’s what Jessica and Barb would like to share this month…

Jessica Coloumbe

Hi! My name is Jessica and I am a coach with the Breast Cancer 3-Day.

Fundraising Tip: Broaden your donor base by taking advantage of social networking websites. Facebook, Twitter, or other social networking accounts are a great way to reach out to a large group of people at once. You can keep your contacts updated on your training and fundraising efforts as well as continually remind them to support you by donating. Ask your friends to give up one large cup of coffee for one day and donate $5 towards your fundraising goal. It doesn’t seem like much, but when hundreds of people donate $5, it adds up quickly!

You can create your own personal URL to link donors to your personal fundraising page. On your Participant Center home page, click on “Update Personal URLs” to create this link. If you don’t have a social networking account, I can assure you that you know someone who does. Ask your friends and family members to use their accounts to ask for donations on your behalf.

Training Tip: Make sure to include longer walks in your training. The Breast Cancer 3-Day suggested training program recommends that you complete longer walks on two consecutive days each week. You will notice a big difference in the way that you feel after walking many miles than you do after just a few. You might notice blisters begin to form on your feet, certain clothing will rub you the wrong way, and you will recognize how proper nutrition and refueling with snacks and sports drinks affects your endurance. All of this knowledge will help you to better prepare for the actual event, and ultimately make you more comfortable and have a more enjoyable experience.

Barb Gruener

Hello everyone. My name is Barb and I am a coach with the Breast Cancer 3-Day. I will be walking in my sixth Breast Cancer 3-Day this August in Chicago.

Training Tip: I love to have people walk with me.  If you can’t make it to a scheduled training walk there is no reason your friends, family, neighbors or even co-workers can’t walk with you. I round up as many family and friends as I can to walk on my daily walks with me. Even on my long walks, I recruit family and friends to walk whatever distance they can. It definitely makes it more interesting and fun to walk with someone else. Send out an email to everyone you know asking them for their support by walking with you.

List specific dates and times in your emails. Have them commit right then to meeting you to walk. You would be surprised at how many people would love to go on training walks with you. All you need to do is ask.

Fundraising Tip:  My favorite fundraiser is a holiday fundraiser. I send out Santa Claus letters to children or adults for five dollars each. This is an easy fundraiser and usually a big money maker. Here is what you do: You send out a letter to everyone you know explaining what you are doing.  You include a form letter with the information you need from them that will be included in the letter from Santa. Information like child’s name, teacher’s name, gift they would like, best friend’s name, etc. Have them complete a form for each child. They send the forms back to you along with $5.00 per letter. As the holidays get closer you then complete the Santa letters and send them to the children. All the supplies you need are paper, envelopes, stamps, and a computer to type the letters on. I have had great success year after year with this fundraiser. If you know a lot of kids who are around 5-7 years old and losing teeth, you could also write letters from the tooth fairy.
