Donation Forms 101 When you ask for donations in person or via a mailed letter, you’ll want to provide a printed donation form to your donor, in case they prefer to donate through the mail instead of on our website. Each printed donation form is personalized with your fundraising account information, including your Participant ID. After the donor completes the form, they should mail it with their check to the address on the form (Breast Cancer 3-Day, PO Box 650543, Dallas, TX 75265-0543).
To print a copy of your donation form, please go to your Participant Center homepage. Click on the link at the top that says “Your Donation Form.” If you are registered for more than one Breast Cancer 3-Day, choose the "Select Another Event" link to switch from one Participant Center to another.
Read pages 17-23 of your walker handbook for more information about donation protocol and how to make sure that your donations are processed correctly. If you haven't yet received your handbook in the mail - sit tight! It should be arriving within the next two weeks.
Breast Cancer 3-Day Business Cards Raise awareness and donations with every contact you have during the course of the day by handing out Breast Cancer 3-Day business cards. Download and print your business cards today (walkers: click here / crew members: click here). Then personalize the cards with your name and fundraising information. Include them with your fundraising letters or pass them out to your friends and colleagues as a reminder for them to support your Breast Cancer 3-Day journey by donating or joining your team.
Double Your Donations with Matching Gifts With no extra cost, a donor’s gift can be doubled (or even tripled!) if their employer offers matching gifts. That means you can multiply your fundraising efforts just by asking your donors to apply for a matching gift with their company. Once the Breast Cancer 3-Day has received and processed a matching gift form from a corporation, it will count toward your fundraising minimum.

Tips from the Inside Each month, we will feature an inside tip from a member of our coaching staff who you may recognize when you call our toll-free number or send us an email. Here’s what Joan and Nancy would like to share this month…

Hello Breast Cancer 3-Day walkers! My name is Joan and I am a five time participant in the Chicago Breast Cancer 3-Day and I have some helpful tips for you as you prepare for your journey.
Fundraising Tip: Fundraising is a challenge, yet easy to achieve if you start early. One thing that I do year after year is start my own coin jar. When I return from the grocery store or errands, I clean out my purse of all spare change and put it in my jar. |
|
When my fundraising letters go out, I bring my jar to the bank and am amazed at how much money I have accumulated in a short time. If you start your jar early, you will easily have a few hundred dollars toward your fundraising. My best yet - $819.00!
Training Tip: When training, keep in mind that it needs to be fun! My walking partner and I have a set route that we do at least three times a week. We know exactly where we are going and mid-way we stop at our local Starbucks to reward ourselves with a drink for the way home. I find that this is not only a great way to reward myself for my efforts, but it is nice to know where you are going and how long you will be walking instead of sometimes just setting out and not feeling as though you accomplished anything. Training is mind over matter, something you know you must do, but don’t always want to do! I make it a priority to walk at least three times a week, minimum of five miles each walk starting in the beginning of the year. As the Breast Cancer 3-Day gets closer, I extend my walks to ten miles, (which can include two stops at Starbucks). Don’t forget to take your change from Starbucks and put it in your change jar when you get home! |

Hi, my name is Nancy. I am a three-year coach for the Breast Cancer 3-Day, a two-time crew member, an active training partner for my mom’s Breast Cancer 3-Day journey and a five-time participant in other multi-day fundraising events.
Training Tip: As a Breast Cancer 3-Day coach and training partner, the two best pieces of advice that I would like to share is the use of petroleum jelly for your feet and to follow the recommended training schedule. An important part of your ongoing training is to toughen up your feet to prevent blisters. |
|
I have found that petroleum jelly is my preferred blister prevention technique. Before I begin my training walk I liberally put petroleum jelly all over the bottom of my feet and between my toes. I also carry extra petroleum jelly in a Ziploc bag and whenever I feel a hot spot on my foot I stop and reapply the petroleum jelly. I have had many hot spots that have not developed into blisters because of the use of petroleum jelly.
I also recommend that you regularly train and the Breast Cancer 3-Day training schedule is a great place to begin. The training schedule provides you with a 24-week or a 16-week training schedule broken out by days. It is easy to follow and can be modified to fit your weekly schedule. The training schedule will prepare you as well as your feet to comfortably complete your 60-mile goal.
Fundraising Tip: Create excitement by regularly updating your personal fundraising webpage with new photos and blog postings. Each time you update your webpage or blog send out an email to both your donors and to those that have not yet donated inviting them to read your latest update. Donors and prospective donors will love to read about your ongoing adventures. You will find that your regular email updates will help remind the prospective donors that it is not too late to donate to your fundraising while serving as a wonderful reminder to those that have donated that they are an important part of your journey. |
Participant Center Tip: Set Up Your Personal Page One of the first things you’ll want to do when you log in to your Participant Center for the first time is to edit your personal fundraising webpage. This is the page that your donors will see when they come to the Breast Cancer 3-Day website to make a donation. Every personal fundraising webpage starts out with standard content and a photo, but the more you can personalize it, the more compelling it will be for your donors. It really can make the difference between a nominal donation and a more substantial one.
To edit your personal page, log in to your Participant Center and select the Personal Page link at the top. Then click the “open this page for editing” link. Edit the page title with a compelling plea for your donors to support you. Then edit the body text to include your personal story of why you are participating in the Breast Cancer 3-Day. Replace the image with a personal photo (of you, your team, or the person you’re walking to honor). Don’t forget to save all of your changes as you go along so you won’t lose them!
The blog feature on your personal page allows you to post notes about your fundraising and training progress. We recommend you update it regularly. Note that only registered participants are allowed to post comments on a blog.
