Philadelphia

October 16-18, 2009

The 2009 Philadelphia Breast Cancer 3-Day was like no other - because a cold, wet Nor'easter blew in to town and changed our plans. We had to cancel the first two days of walking, due to the extreme weather conditions, but our spirits could not be dampened. Participants created their own impromptu gatherings at local hotels and area shopping centers to keep the Breast Cancer 3-Day spirit alive.

On Sunday, we were finally able to get out onto the route. More than 2,500 participants braved rain, cold temperatures and lots of mud. They stayed amazingly upbeat despite the weather, and courageously did not give up on their goal - to end breast cancer. We walked through the Philadelphia Zoo, and were cheered on for two full city blocks by local community members offering candy, brownies and water. 92.5 WXTU radio made our lunch stop fun. After a wet, windy and chilly but inspiring walk, we enjoyed the warmth and shelter of South Philadelphia High School to eat, dance and celebrate before ending at the Navy Yard for a joyous Closing Ceremony.

The money we raised will help Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund save lives.
