October 21-23, 2011

The 2011 Susan G. Komen Atlanta 3-Day for the Cure began bright and early on a breezy Friday morning with an emotional Opening Ceremony at Stone Mountain Park. The 18.6-mile route featured many memorable highlights, including Girl Scouts and preschoolers with painted pink ribbon pictures. We walked through neighborhoods with school children cheering us on, through Stone Mountain into downtown Decatur. After a long day of walking, we settled in to camp at the Georgia World Congress Center, our home away from home for the weekend. The evening entertainment included GLEE performances.

On Saturday morning, we woke up early, ready to hit the trail again for another great day of walking. The 19.8-mile day started out chilly but ended with a beautiful sunny afternoon.

The beauty of the Buckhead area was truly inspiring. There was a lot of community support throughout the weekend. We had a great cheerleading team from Northview High School, pink gorillas and water stations from local businesses. The cheering stations were packed with friends and family and gave us the extra motivation we needed to finish the day. The Atlanta 3-Day Youth Corps really kept us excited at every station. We appreciated their support and dancing skills at lunch. Then we headed back to camp where we had a dance party and a great time with It's Raining Men! This included all the male 3-Day walkers, Crew & EMT support.

Our final day of walking we wound through Piedmont Park, the Virgina Highlands, and Emory's Briarcliff campus. The cheering stations at the park were packed and many families were out supporting their loved ones. We really appreciated the coffee kids, the Emory choir, the Woodward Cheerleading team, and all of the Girl Scout Troops! We walked as one towards our Closing Ceremony at Turner Field with a stronger connection to each other and the cause. It was an amazing end to a beautiful weekend.

The money we raised will help Susan G. Komen for the Cure® save lives.
