Many grocery stores allow fundraising for non profit organizations to take place in front of their doors.

I have found that while no one in these depressed economic times has much money most everyone has two or three dollars. Many grocery stores allow fundraising for non profit organizations to take place in front of their doors.

I have had great success ($400 in a day) asking for donations outside grocery stores. For a smile and "how are you doing" I can usually interest a person in what I'm doing and often get donations. Usually only a few dollars at a time, but my highest donor has been sixty dollars. Just be friendly. Make an eye catching poster. People know we stand (walk) for a good cause.
