People ask me often, again and again, why do you keep doing this? Why do you keep walking or crewing (medical team)? Because 1 out of 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their life. And men get breast cancer! Look around at eight of your friends and think, 'which one will it be'.
This past year that one was a good friend of mine!!! She is FIGHTING this battle right now and I am going to walk to fight for her and those that cannot!
I continue to be involved because Komen has helped to contribute to a 43% DECLINE in the breast cancer death rate between 1989 and 2020, due to improvements in early detection and effective treatment.
I have walked 60 miles or crewed (volunteered, working all three days, sometimes four) each year since 2009 (except for Covid when everything stopped). I will continue to do so until I am no longer able.
