Please support me as I commit to an incredible challenge. The Susan G. Komen 3-Day is a 60-mile walk over the course of three days. It will be hard, but it’s not as hard as breast cancer. It’s not as hard as chemo. It’s not as hard as getting bad news at your latest scan. It’s not as hard as saying goodbye. And that’s why I know I have to do this. That’s why I commit. That’s why I’m walking and why I’m raising money – to end breast cancer forever.
I began walking in 2013, & this year will be my 8th walk, and I will be walking in Boston, Massachusetts, August 15 - 17, 2025. I vow to walk until we find cure. I walk to honor my Mom Josephine Dominguez aka JoeMomma. She passed of breast cancer on October 12, 1978, a day before her 50th birthday on October 13th. She never got to see her 5 children (John, Joanne, Jimmy, Jacqueline and Joseph) grow up. She never was able to meet one of her 9 grandchildren (Anthony, Shanell, Trey, Joseph, Danielle, Victoria, Edward, Isabel or Joseph). She never got the opportunity to meet her first great-grandson (Victor).
I also walk to honor my husband David's Mom, & Mother-In-Law, Sandra Young who was a breast cancer survivor and passed in April 2018 with a second bout of cancer.
I walk in honor of all my Breast Friends/Blister Sisters from Team Hula Hooping for Hope. I had the pleasure of meeting and walking in my first walk together with these lovely ladies and gents in DC in the pouring rain in 2013. It was one of the best experiences in my life. I not only gained lifelong breast friends but it also ignited a flame that has made me want to continue fundraising/walking every year.
I walk for my Cousin Posey Dominguez who is a breast cancer survivor. I walk for my Sister-in-law Robin Mays aka Snookie who is a breast cancer survivor. I walk for my Aunt Lola Jones who is a breast cancer survivor and 3 time total cancer survivor & walk to honor her twin sister/Aunt Lula Young who passed from breast cancer. I walk for my sister-in-law, Susan Hoffman who is a 2 time breast cancer survivor, 3 time total cancer survivor. I walk for my friend Cynthia Martinez who is a breast cancer survivor. I walk for my friend Holly's Mom, Carol Glover who is a breast cancer survivor. I walk for my friend Ivonne's Sister, Maria del Carmen Benet-Rush. I walk for my friend Sandy Cleveland-Gladden who is currently battling breast cancer. I walk for my friend/hairdresser Yanira Polanco who is currently battling breast cancer. I walk for my friend & fellow Susan G. Komen Advocate Jennifer Williams who lost her fight against Metastatic breast cancer a few weeks ago. I also walk for those family, friends & others who have been effected by this despicable disease. No one should ever walk alone on their journey to fighting breast cancer.
I walk because I am angry! I am angry that my Mom and Mother-in-law were taken too soon and I was not afforded the opportunity to enjoy life's greatest moments with them. No family should have to lose their family member so early in life. This is why I am so passionate about walking until we find a cure!!!!!
